The Place in our collective Imagination: The Gorgeous Ocean

These images come most often from dreams I have. I am overwhelmed by the immensity of the ocean. I love the work of Carl Sagan, The Pale Blue Dot in which the earth is photographed from space. As you look from the perspective the Ocean is the matrix in which all life floats. I am beginning to see how we live in, or on the huge body of water. No wonder it fills all our narratives and mythology.  Oceanus the God of the Ocean, the Rivers seems to arise from these miraculous waters.  Kathleen Sidwell.  These are works in progress at The Studio on Slough Road.

old Provincetown Aquarium glass

This sculpture entitled Wave was created from thick plate glass that was once the heart of the old Provincetown Aquarium, which existed from 1963 to 1985. A predecessor to the New England Aquarium, this marine oasis once offered a rare window into the diverse oceanic life found in surrounding Cape waters.

Today, the Old Aquarium Mall stands in its place as a reminder of this historic facility. By giving a second life to the unique aqua-blue/green glass , I pay tribute to the vision Jacky Gleason, the aquarium's founder, had in its creation. The glass is transformed into sculpture by designing, cutting, assembling and fusing multiple elements together in my kiln.
